Dirty Laundry

Dirty Laundry is a new concept bar and restaurant in downtown Auckland created by Studio Design + Architecture. We made the most of the small space by mixing banquette seating, high tables and the loftier bar seating area with lower tables, all under film style lighting on trusses. The open ceiling features exposed ductwork, and we used a brick product on the existing steel and concrete columns and timber walls – plus a large blackened steel over-bar unit – to complete the industrial feel. All seating was custom made for the restaurant, while the large flag and artwork were supplied by the owner and very much informed the design.

For the outside area we created a glazed roof structure with timber beams to allow year-round use regardless of weather conditions, as the space was particularly exposed to the north east.
