Education Gateways
Our team was appointed by the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) to design the new Education Gateways Building (EDGY), at the University’s Springfield campus.
With a project budget of $32 million, we completed the concept designs for the 8,500 sqm facility. EDGY will eventually form a part of the proposed Springfield ‘Health City’, a 52ha integrated health and wellness precinct. The building will host the delivery of academic programs, collaborations with external training providers and professional health centres.
The University’s brief required the encouragement of collaborative learning opportunities, with a broad array of ICT connectivity options, including wireless, dialogue cafe and virtual classes. To accommodate future growth, the University also required that the design enable the addition of two floors, without significant structural modification.
With a variety of environmentally sustainable design initiatives, including the incorporation of a ‘green roof’, the new building is pitched to achieve a 5 Star Green Star – Education v1 rating, for design, construction and operation.
