Shed 5
SHED 5 restaurant occupies one of the oldest heritage wharf stores on Wellington’s waterfront. A sophisticated dining experience specializing in seafood, SHED 5 was designed for Nourish Group and renowned New Zealand chef Gareth Stewart.
Heritage Wharf
Dark timber-look wall coverings blend visually with the vertical distressed timber of the adjacent The Crab Shack restaurant, also designed by Studio Design + Architecture, enhancing the warmth and history of the heritage wharf. Included in the client brief was a multifunctional space within the restaurant. Studio Design + Architecture designed a private dining area which could open up into a larger space for functions such as weddings.
Lighting for the space included pewter metal mesh pendant lighting along with loose filament bulbs in custom pendant lights that hang over the private dining and banquet seating areas.
To help with sound within the old building, acoustic panels were suspended over the area which created a lowered false ceiling. These added to the intimacy of the private dining space and create an aesthetic tension with the high peaked roof of the rest of the building.
The small SHED 5 bar and entrance area were also refurbished with similar finishes to the restaurant. This provided a more efficient use of space and the perfect setting for a pre- or post-dining drink.
